How to Avoid These Five Home Buyer Mistakes

Want to buy a Wilmington Home? Search all homes for sale.

As we head into the busy spring market, I thought it would be appropriate to speak about five common mistakes that buyers tend to make when purchasing a home.

  1. Not being pre-approved: This is extremely important if you're looking to buy a home. You will look more serious in the eyes of the seller, and you will know what type of home you can afford to buy.
  2. Getting too emotional: You need to remember that this is a business transaction and that the goal is to sell your home for the most amount of money to the most qualified buyer. Take a few steps back and think about what you're doing before you act.
  3. Don't forget about added costs: Over the years you're going to have a lot of added costs. For example, if you need a new roof or a new AC system, you're going to have to shell out quite a bit of money. Plan for these expenses now.
  4. Don't be too critical: When it comes to cosmetic repairs or updates, don't be too critical because those kinds of repairs are very easy to fix. You should really be worried about the home's plumbing and other foundational issues when you're buying.
  5. Forgetting about inspections: I understand that you want to cut costs wherever you can, but inspections are absolutely necessary before you buy a home. I recommend that all of my clients do this, because it only costs $300 to $500 dollars to do so.

Hopefully, these five tips can be helpful to you before you go to purchase a Wilmington home. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you need assistance with the buying or selling process!
